Brian Jay Paul, 52, of La Grande, died Oct. 21 at his home. At the request of the family, there will be no services. Loveland Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.
Brian was born Dec. 31, 1957, at Anchorage, Alaska, to Donald Krieger and Lois (Sweeten) Paul. He grew up in Orlando, Fla., and Elgin. He was born a special needs child who graduated from La Grande High School in 1976.
Those who knew Brian say he was very kind. He enjoyed being surrounded by his friends and family and their laughter and company. He liked spending time outdoors fishing, sitting in the sun and drinking beer with his friends. Brian lived a simple life and was a master at the yo-yo. Those who knew him say he could beat anyone at chess in only three moves.
He is survived by his daughter, Cerena Plantz of Tahuya, Wash.; step-mother, Lanetta Paul of La Grande; a grandson; four brothers, Mark E. Paul of Tampa, Fla., Jeffrey S. Paul of Orlando, Bradley S. Paul of Crosslanes, W.Va. and Michael L. Paul of Spokane, Wash.; grandmother, Gladys M. Sweeten of Orlando, Fla., who is 99 years old; and an uncle and aunt.
