Alan Smutz

Alan Joseph Smutz died on June 1, 2018, of an apparent heart attack. He was born to Walter I. and Dee Ann (Woodward) Smutz on April 8, 1958, and grew up on the family farm in La Grande, Oregon.

He spent most of his career working as a boiler operator and an electrical technician for Oregon Department of Corrections. He moved to Pendleton, Oregon, in 1985 and to Payette, Idaho, in 2012.

Recreation with his wife, children, and grandchildren was a priority for Alan. He frequently took his family to the outdoors for activities such as camping and motorcycle riding. He was constantly engaged in home improvement and automotive projects. He was active in his congregation and served in positions such as clerk.

Alan is survived by his wife Katherine (Johnson); brothers Charles and Paul; children Jolynn, Charles and Richard; and seven grandchildren.

His funeral service will be held June 16 at 9:00 a.m. at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 501 S. Iowa Ave., Payette, Idaho.
